Q: What do I expect from my first physiotherapy treatment?

A: For your initial consultation/ assessment, the Physiotherapist will document your full medical history, which will be followed by a thorough assessment guided by the presenting complaint(s). This information will be used to isolate the cause, form a physical diagnosis, and structure a treatment plan with you aimed at reducing pain and restoring pain-free function.

Q: Do you have facilities for in-patients?

A: Not currently, but we have arrangements with an affiliated guest house for clients from out of town, or requiring frequent rehabilitation sessions.

Q: What do I need to come along with for a physiotherapy session?

A: We suggest you wear shorts and a shirt (possibly sleeveless) as this improves access for required assessment, and unhindered movement for exercise. You may also come along with any diagnostic imaging ( Xray/MRI) or report if available.

Q: Can i see a Physiotherapist with my Health Insurance Or HMO ?

A: Yes, We Partner with a few major HMOs both Nationally and Internationally (including AXA Mansard, Leadway Health,  MetroHealth HMO, Hygeia HMO, Bupa, Allianz care and Reliance HMO). However, please confirm with your HMO before booking an appointment.

Q: Do I need to be referred for Physiotherapy by a doctor or specialist?

A: No, you can self-refer. A Physiotherapist can be a point of first contact. If need be, the Physiotherapist may refer to a Physician or other health professional.

Q: How Many Physiotherapy sessions would I need?

A: The number of Physiotherapy sessions required may vary widely among clients, as there are a host of factors that determine prognosis, some of which are; age, presenting condition, comorbidities, severity of condition, health status, adherence to home exercise programmes,  lifestyle e.t.c These factors largely predict how long one's rehabilitation may take.

Q: Can I get a physiotherapist to see me, or someone on admission in a hospital or care facility?

A: Yes you can, just pre-inform the hospital management,  and schedule with us; we'll bring all we need along.

Q: What is Physiotherapy?

A: Physiotherapy, also known as physical therapy, is a Doctorate or Bachelors degree healthcare profession that involves evaluating, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of physical conditions and movement-related issues. It focuses on promoting, restoring, and maintaining physical function and mobility in individuals of all ages. Physiotherapists may use various techniques such as exercises, manual therapy, electrotherapy, and education to help patients manage pain, recover from injuries, improve strength and flexibility, and optimize their overall physical well-being; and will make use of the best physiotherapy modalities for each patient. The goal of physiotherapy is to enhance quality of life and promote independence through personalized treatment plans tailored to each individual's needs.

Q: Are Physiotherapists Doctors?

A: Physiotherapists aren't doctors in the traditional sense, they are medical or healthcare professionals, who specialize in treating specific patient conditions, via specific modalities.

Even when the "Dr" title is conferred on them with their Doctorate of Physiotherapy degree, they make it clear in a clinical setting, that they are doctors of physiotherapy / Physical therapy to patients.

Q: How much is Physiotherapy Treatment in Nigeria?

A:

The cost of a physiotherapy session in Nigeria varies depending on factors such as location, the Physios expertise, and the specific services offered. Typically, a standard physiotherapy session in major cities like Lagos, Abuja, or Port Harcourt may start at a minimum of about ₦30,000 per session.

However, in some practices, if the session involves specialized techniques or the use of advanced modalities, like electrical stimulation, ultrasound therapy, or laser therapy, the cost could go up. In such cases, sessions might cost up to ₦50,000 or higher.

Some clinics might offer discounts for package deals, while most charge more for home visits. It’s important to note that prices may also differ if you’re visiting a high-end private practice versus a public or government hospital physiotherapy department.

At St Joseph’s Physiotherapy Clinics in Lagos, our pricing remains competitive while ensuring premium care in our Surulere and Lekki clinic locations.
